Mika Schwarz

Styria, Austria, 1986

In her work, Mika Schwarz combines images, text, objects and videos to create spatial installations and speculative systems. Her work has been shown at Förderverein Aktuelle Kunst Münster, Galerie für Zeitgenössische Kunst (GfZK) Leipzig, Goethe Institute Paris, Tel Aviv and Lyon, and the Art Future Biennale Riga among others. Since 2020, she has held teaching positions at the Technical University of Berlin.

Does the long half-life of this metal—longer than the age of the universe itself—suggest that it has borne witness to the creators in their creation? What does it mean to outlast a simulation? Has it endured multiple simulations, outliving them simply by moving so slowly? Does it therefore hold a much greater truth that is now, in this landscape, being washed into the earth by the melting snow?
