Foundation Requirements began with Dejanoff’s involvement with various residential buildings, a 15th century house, a 16th century bathhouse, both in Arbanassi, and three houses from the 17th, 18th and 19th centuries in Veliko Tarnovo. These are the restituted buildings that the artist brought into his foundation in 2010.

Dejanoff became aware of the special construction of these buildings when he researched the archives of the Fondation Le Corbusier for an exhibition at the Palais de Tokyo in Paris in 2001. The French architect had visited Veliko Tarnovo and Arbanassi, among other places, on his journey through south-eastern European countries in 1911 – even before the great earthquake.

Le Corbusier was fascinated by the modular “plug-in” technique that can still be found in many old buildings today – including those designed by Dejanoff. Dejanoff then began to work intensively with this technique himself and to use it for his own works. It forms the basis of both the sculptures in the Foundation Requirements and the Bronze House mentioned above. The ceilings, panels, floors and doors, executed with the utmost precision in oak, cherry and walnut according to the historical models, were and are shown by Dejanoff in museum and gallery exhibitions worldwide. Existing architectural remains and original plans, which the artist found in the library of one of his houses, form the basis for the reconstruction. Other plans come from the Bulgarian Ministry of Culture.
