The work produced by Di Luciano is inspired by an analysis of the visual processes originating from the theory of Gestalt, and is placed in an approach that we could define as structuralist, characterized by pictorial investigations of a mathematical nature. The desire to conform to strict geometric rules has led, in the works since the 60s, to the development of a brand as an image in which color, as a potentially emotional and subjective factor, is banned. What is dominant are the simple operational processes that create form. The works of this period present a kind of fundamental alphabet, articulated alternately according to rhythmic progressions and structuring of geometric modules produced by lines, squares and rectangles. On the one hand, they cancel any distinction between figure and background, generating a perceptive instability between positive and negative.

Painting thus becomes an epistemological metaphor, in which the central idea is the procedure, rather than the result: in fact, the possibility of controlling and pre-ordering the visual result, of programming it on the basis of a rigorous and objective method of image construction, goes hand in hand with the activation of a virtual movement that the observer is induced to follow and complete by participating, through their perceptive and mental mechanisms, in the generation of the work itself.
