Particolare Particolare

Franz Gertsch
Gräser II, 2004

Xylography/ Woodcut, Japanese Paper
170 x 152 cm.
Private collection

The artist’s practice reflects a singular approach to reality, which is not only a pictorial challenge, but also a conceptual one. While his work is based on photographs or slide projections, the images go on to follow their own inherent logic.

Through an unprecedented precision in cutting and printing monumental, larger-than-life formats, Gertsch pushes the boundaries of paper production and opens up a whole new dimension to the highly traditional medium of woodcut.
