Through these two works, Vera Molnar pays tribute to Albrecht Dürer by drawing inspiration from the magic square in his engraving Melencolia I (1514). Fascinated by this mathematical object, she explores the concept of “Repentirs,” which refers to corrections in an artwork, by creating a series of images where points are randomly shifted. Molnar uses computers to simulate a hesitant hand, blending tradition with technology. By experimenting with the configurations of the magic square, she aims to uncover the mysteries and surprises it holds, while reinterpreting Dürer’s legacy through modern techniques.
